TRAIL INTERNACIONAL DA RAIA
Presentation of the event
The Trail Internacional da Raia is a cross-border sporting event with routes designed along rural paths and smugglers’ trails from Portugal and Spain: Sierra de Gata – Serra das Mesas – Malcata Protected Area – Alto Côa Route.
The races score points for the national ATRP league (Trail and Trail Sprint) and international ITRA and UTMB Index circuits.
30% of athletes come from abroad (14 countries represented).
This event includes four competitive races of 44 km, a 27 km Long Trail, a 16 km Short Trail, a 9 km Mini-Trail/Walk and a 2 km initiation.
TRAIL ULTRA
This race is egigent and requires good physical preparation, mainly due to the distance to be traveld, however the altimetry is reasonable and the trails are generally fast, allowing you to enjoy a unique route through Portuguese and Spanish lands.
After the visit to the Spanish village of Navasfrias, heading the Sierra de Gata, the region of Extremadura then entering the protected area of the Serra da Malcata in the Serra das Mesas.
Trails with a very diverse environment :
– pine, eucalyptus, oak, and lots of stone (granite and shale) in the landscape and on the way…
LONG TRAIL
For experienced athletes, the Long Trail is the ideal race to compete and discover the Spanish landscapes of the province of Salamanca and Cáceres as well as the Serra da Malcata.
After the visit to the Spanish village of Navasfrias, heading the granitica Serra das Mesas and source of the Côa River.
Throughout the route, the trails have a very diverse environment :

SHORT TRAIL
Ascent to the “Cabeço Vermelho” and entry into Spanish territory.
After “Ruta del Contrabando”
pines, eucalyptus, chestnut and oak trees accompany the athletes to the finish line.
MINI-TRAIL / HIKE
After the via ferrata na Lage Gorda, heading Malhão and then Cabeço Vermelho.
Without a doubt, the best way to enjoy the landscapes and spend excellent moments with family and friends in the heart of nature.
